Circa 1905 Parker Brothers GH Grade 2 Hammerless Side-by-Side Shotgun with Damascus Barrels Offered is a vintage Parker Brothers Grade 2 hammerless side-by-side shotgun, commonly designated the GH Grade. Serial number 130990 places its manufacture in approximately 1905, during the celebrated Meriden, Connecticut period of Parker production. Founded in 1866, Parker Brothers became one of America’s most respected makers of sporting shotguns. Parker doubles were produced in numerous grades, ranging from practical field guns to elaborately finished presentation pieces. The Grade 2 combined dependable field construction with decorative scrollwork, engraved game scenes and upgraded barrel and stock appointments. This example has a hammerless boxlock action, double triggers, tang-mounted safety, top-opening lever, checkered walnut stock and splinter forearm. The receiver retains portions of its original scroll engraving, game-bird scenes and Parker Brothers markings. The solid barrel rib is marked: “PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN CONN. DAMASCUS STEEL” Identification and Features Parker Brothers Grade 2 hammerless side-by-side shotgun Commonly designated the GH Grade Serial number 130990 Approximately 1905 production Damascus steel barrels Double triggers Tang-mounted safety Top-opening lever Checkered walnut stock and splinter forearm Parker Brothers hard-rubber buttplate Receiver and forearm iron carry matching serial numbers Condition This shotgun displays extensive age-related patina, finish loss, surface oxidation and evidence of substantial field use. The receiver’s engraved scrollwork, Parker Brothers markings and game-bird scenes remain visible but have softened considerably from age and wear. The walnut stock and forearm show scratches, dents, finish wear and other handling marks. The forearm iron is serial-numbered 130990, matching the receiver. The Damascus barrels exhibit a generally brown patina with finish loss and scattered oxidation. One barrel has a distinct circular blemish with localized finish loss and visible orange-brown oxidation. The depth, cause and structural effect of this area have not been determined. IMPORTANT FIREARM CONDITION NOTICE: Mechanical operation, bore condition, chamber dimensions, choke constrictions, barrel-wall thickness and firing safety have not been independently verified. Due to the age of the firearm, its Damascus barrel construction and the visible barrel blemish, this shotgun should not be fired unless and until it has been thoroughly inspected and approved by a qualified gunsmith experienced with vintage double-barrel shotguns. This is a historically significant American sporting shotgun suitable for a Parker collection, vintage firearms display, or professional restoration project. Bidders should carefully review all photographs and conduct any desired inspection before bidding. Sold AS IS, WHERE IS, with no warranties or representations concerning mechanical operation, internal condition, barrel integrity, originality of every component, or suitability for firing.
