Parker Bros. DH Grade 10 Gauge Damascus Hammerless Side-by-Side Grade 3 • Serial No. 95,412 • Matching Forearm • Circa 1899 Offered is a Parker Bros. DH Grade, also known as the Grade 3, hammerless side-by-side shotgun in 10 gauge. Serial number 95,412 places its manufacture at approximately 1899. The shotgun features Damascus-steel barrels, double triggers, a tang-mounted safety, extractor operation and Parker's push-button forearm release. The receiver displays the detailed scrollwork and sporting-dog scenes associated with Parker's higher-grade guns. The Damascus pattern remains readily visible along the barrels, and the forearm iron bears the matching serial number 95,412. The matching numbered forearm is an important point of originality. Features and Identification Manufacturer: Parker Bros., Meriden, Connecticut Model/Grade: DH Grade / Grade 3 Gauge: 10 gauge Serial Number: 95,412 Approximate Date: 1899 Action: Hammerless side-by-side with double triggers and tang safety Barrels: Damascus steel with matted top rib and front bead Operation: Extractor Forearm: Matching-number splinter forearm with push-button release Decoration: Scroll engraving with sporting-dog scenes Historical Background Parker Bros. manufactured sporting shotguns in Meriden, Connecticut. The Grade 3 was introduced in 1875 at a catalog price of $100 and was later designated the DH Grade. The Parker Gun Collectors Association identifies the DH as the lowest Parker grade included among the company's high-grade shotguns. Typical Grade 3 features included Damascus barrels, Circassian walnut, elaborate checkering, sporting-dog scenes and extensive scroll engraving. This shotgun retains those recognizable Grade 3 characteristics. Condition This shotgun exhibits honest age and field wear. The metal surfaces have developed an overall brown-gray patina with oxidation, handling marks and substantial loss of the original finish. The Damascus pattern remains visible. The stock and forearm display scratches, dents, finish wear and worn checkering. A significant crack is present through the checkered wrist immediately behind the upper tang. This crack is clearly disclosed and should be professionally evaluated and repaired. The bores have not been professionally graded. No representation is made regarding chamber length, bore dimensions, choke constriction, minimum barrel-wall thickness, rib integrity, headspace, lockup or mechanical safety. Important Firearm Notice This shotgun has Damascus-steel barrels and is not represented as safe to fire. It is offered as-is in its present condition as a historic and collectible firearm. Before attempting to fire it with any ammunition, the buyer should have the barrels, chambers, bores, wall thickness, ribs, stock, action and lockup examined by a qualified gunsmith experienced with vintage double-barrel shotguns. A matching-forearm Grade 3 10-gauge Parker with visible Damascus pattern and classic dog-and-scroll engraving, offered for restoration or addition to a collection.
