1922 Parker Bros. VH Vulcan Grade 12 Gauge Side-by-Side Shotgun – Matching Numbers Offered is a Parker Bros. VH Grade hammerless side-by-side shotgun chambered in 12 gauge. Serial number 199142 places its manufacture in approximately 1922 at Parker’s Meriden, Connecticut, factory. The serial number is present on the action, barrel lug and forearm iron, indicating that the principal numbered components match. The water table is marked “VH”, identifying the gun as Parker’s plainly finished but well-built Vulcan Grade. The barrel rib is marked: “PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. CONN. U.S.A. VULCAN STEEL” Parker VH Background Parker Bros. was one of America’s best-known manufacturers of sporting shotguns. The VH, or Vulcan Grade, was developed as a practical working-grade Parker with restrained decoration and the company’s established hammerless double-gun action. Rather than Damascus barrels, this example is fitted with Parker’s fluid-steel Vulcan Steel barrels. The VH retained many recognizable Parker features, including the sculpted receiver, rib extension, double triggers, tang safety, splinter forearm and distinctive Parker pistol-grip cap. Its relatively plain finish made it suitable for regular field use while preserving the mechanical design associated with Parker doubles. Features and Markings Manufacturer: Parker Bros. Grade: VH, commonly known as the Vulcan Grade Gauge: 12 gauge Serial Number: 199142 Approximate Year of Manufacture: 1922 Frame: Marked 1½ frame Barrels: Parker Vulcan Steel side-by-side barrels Action: Hammerless break action Extraction: Extractor configuration Triggers: Double triggers Safety: Tang-mounted safety Forearm: Splinter forearm with push-button release Stock: Checkered pistol-grip walnut with Parker grip cap Numbers: Matching serial number on the action, barrels and forearm iron Condition This shotgun displays age-appropriate wear from use and storage. The barrels and action exhibit finish loss, gray and brown patina, scattered oxidation, scratches and handling marks. The receiver’s original case coloring has largely faded. The barrel rib markings and principal factory markings remain legible. The walnut stock and forearm show finish wear, scratches, dents and worn checkering. The stock is fitted with an older aftermarket recoil pad that shows substantial deterioration, wear and separation around portions of its edge. The action closes securely, and the lockup appears tight. The shotgun has not been test-fired, and the operation of the triggers, safety, extractor and internal mechanisms has not been fully verified. Bore condition, chamber length, choke constrictions, barrel length and stock dimensions have not been measured. Important Notice This vintage firearm is being sold as is. It has not been test-fired, and its complete mechanical condition and suitability for firing are unknown. A qualified gunsmith should inspect the action, chambers, bores, barrel-wall thickness, ribs, stock and all operating mechanisms before the gun is loaded or fired. This lot offers a matching-number Parker Bros. VH Grade with Vulcan Steel barrels, classic Parker styling and an honest, field-used appearance. Please review all photographs and bid according to your own inspection and assessment.
