1982 Engelhard American Prospector Silver Round First-Year “Big E” Reverse • One Troy Ounce • .999+ Fine Silver Offered in this lot is a 1982 Engelhard American Prospector silver round, containing one troy ounce of .999+ fine silver. This is the first-year issue from Engelhard’s well-known American Prospector series and features the early Large E, commonly called the “Big E,” reverse design. Lot 300 Highlights Issuer: Engelhard Series: The American Prospector Date: 1982 Type: Privately issued silver bullion round Silver Content: One troy ounce Purity: .999+ fine silver Reverse Variety: Large E / “Big E” Engelhard logo Packaging: Protective round capsule Design The obverse depicts a prospector panning beside a stream, accompanied by “U.S.A.,” the 1982 date and “THE AMERICAN PROSPECTOR.” The reverse displays Engelhard’s large corporate “E” logo over a globe, surrounded by the inscriptions “ENGELHARD,” “ONE TROY OUNCE” and “999+ FINE SILVER.” Background Engelhard introduced the one-ounce American Prospector in 1982. The series became one of the most recognizable privately minted American silver rounds of the 1980s. The Large E reverse was used on the earliest issues before Engelhard transitioned to its later eagle reverse, making this an identifiable early-series variety. Engelhard is no longer producing these vintage Prospector rounds. Surviving examples are purchased both for their silver content and for their connection to the history of privately issued American bullion. Condition The round has a bright silver appearance with scattered surface marks, light abrasions and handling consistent with an ungraded vintage bullion round. It is presently housed in a protective capsule. No numerical grade is represented or implied. Please review all photographs for the exact round, markings, surfaces, capsule and overall condition included in this lot. DOUBLE A AUCTION & REALTY
