1985 Engelhard American Prospector Silver Round Eagle Reverse • One Troy Ounce • .999+ Fine Silver Offered in this lot is a 1985 Engelhard American Prospector silver round, containing one troy ounce of .999+ fine silver. This example features the later eagle reverse, which replaced the Large E corporate-logo design used on the earliest Prospector issues. Lot 301 Highlights Issuer: Engelhard Series: The American Prospector Date: 1985 Type: Privately issued silver bullion round Silver Content: One troy ounce Purity: .999+ fine silver Reverse Variety: Eagle reverse Packaging: Protective round capsule Design The obverse depicts a prospector panning beside a stream, accompanied by “U.S.A.,” the 1985 date and “THE AMERICAN PROSPECTOR.” The reverse displays an American eagle with its wings extended above a flag, with the inscriptions “ENGELHARD,” “ONE TROY OUNCE” and “999+ FINE SILVER.” Background Engelhard introduced the one-ounce American Prospector in 1982. The series became one of the most recognizable privately issued American silver rounds of the 1980s. Engelhard used its Large E reverse on the earliest issues before adopting the detailed eagle design represented by this 1985 example. The Prospector series occupies an established place in the vintage bullion market. Engelhard is no longer producing these original rounds, and surviving examples are purchased for both their intrinsic silver content and their connection to the history of privately minted American bullion. Condition The round retains a bright silver appearance with scattered surface marks, light abrasions and handling consistent with an ungraded vintage bullion round. It is presently housed in a protective capsule. No numerical grade is represented or implied. Please review all photographs for the exact round, markings, surfaces, capsule and overall condition included in this lot. DOUBLE A AUCTION & REALTY
