1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar NGC Certified MS64 – Older NGC Holder Offered is an 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company as MS64. The coin is encapsulated in an older-generation NGC holder bearing certification number 260504-065. Coin Details Date: 1885 Mint: New Orleans Mintmark: O Denomination: One Dollar Grade: NGC MS64 Certification Number: 260504-065 Composition: 90% Silver and 10% Copper Actual Silver Weight: Approximately 0.77344 Troy Ounce Designer: George T. Morgan Historical Background The Morgan Dollar was designed by United States Mint engraver George T. Morgan and originally produced from 1878 through 1904, followed by an additional production run in 1921. Liberty appears on the obverse, while the reverse features an American eagle holding arrows and an olive branch. This example was struck at the New Orleans Mint, identified by the “O” mintmark beneath the wreath on the reverse. The New Orleans Mint produced approximately 9,185,000 Morgan Dollars in 1885. Many examples remained in government storage for decades before being released through twentieth-century Treasury distributions, helping make the 1885-O a popular certified Mint State representative of the New Orleans Mint. Condition NGC has assigned this coin a grade of MS64, indicating a Choice Uncirculated example without wear from normal circulation. The coin displays substantial remaining mint luster, clearly defined design elements, silver-gray surfaces, and warm natural-looking coloration. Scattered contact marks and abrasions are present within the standards of the assigned grade. The coin is housed in an older-generation NGC holder. The holder may exhibit ordinary handling marks consistent with age and storage. An appealing certified New Orleans Morgan Dollar suitable for a Morgan Dollar collection, nineteenth-century United States coin collection, silver-dollar type set, or collection of older certified holders.
