The obverse exhibits mottled toning and scattered spotting, while the reverse is generally brighter with warmer coloration toward portions of the field and border. Liberty's portrait, radiate crown and surrounding lettering remain well defined. The reverse eagle, sun rays and inscriptions also retain strong detail. Scattered contact marks are present consistent with the assigned Mint State grade. The coin remains sealed in its ICG holder. Historical Background The Peace dollar was introduced in late 1921 to commemorate the restoration of peace following World War I. Sculptor Anthony de Francisci designed the coin, placing Liberty on the obverse and a bald eagle resting above the word “PEACE” on the reverse. The original 1921 coins were struck in high relief, but the design was changed to a more practical low-relief format for regular production beginning in 1922. The Philadelphia Mint struck 51,737,000 examples that year, making the 1922 Philadelphia issue the highest-mintage Peace dollar. A certified Mint State example of one of America's best-known twentieth-century silver-dollar designs.
