2013 American Silver Eagle PCGS MS69 First Strike • John Mercanti Signed Label Offered in this lot is a 2013 American Silver Eagle certified by Professional Coin Grading Service as MS69 First Strike. The PCGS holder features a special label signed by John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and designer of the coin's original heraldic-eagle reverse. COIN DETAILS Date: 2013 Denomination: One Dollar Series: American Silver Eagle Grade: PCGS MS69 Designation: First Strike Special Label: John M. Mercanti Signed Label PCGS Certification Number: 27488980 PCGS Coin Number: 515914 Composition: .999 Fine Silver Silver Content: One Troy Ounce Obverse Designer: Adolph A. Weinman Reverse Designer: John M. Mercanti Appearance and Condition This certified example displays bright, satin-finished silver surfaces with sharply defined design elements. The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty design, with Liberty advancing toward the rising sun while carrying branches of laurel and oak. The reverse bears John Mercanti's heraldic eagle with shield, olive branch, arrows and thirteen stars representing the original colonies. Small scattered areas of light golden toning or spotting are visible on the obverse. The coin remains sealed in its PCGS holder and has been assigned the near-perfect grade of MS69. First Strike and Mercanti Label The PCGS First Strike designation indicates that the coin was received by PCGS within the service's qualifying period following the coin's initial release. The signed John Mercanti label adds a direct connection to the designer responsible for the Silver Eagle's original reverse. Historical Background The United States Mint introduced the American Silver Eagle program in 1986. Each bullion coin contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and carries a legal-tender face value of one dollar. The 2013 issue had a bullion mintage of 42,675,000 coins. Mercanti's heraldic-eagle reverse was used from the beginning of the series through 2020, before being replaced with a new eagle design in 2021. Combining one troy ounce of fine silver, a near-perfect PCGS grade, the First Strike designation and a John Mercanti signed label, this coin will appeal to American Silver Eagle collectors, modern-coin specialists and silver buyers.
