2013-(W) American Silver Eagle PCGS MS70 – Struck at the West Point Mint Offered is a 2013 American Silver Eagle certified by Professional Coin Grading Service as PCGS MS70, the highest numerical grade on the 70-point grading scale. PCGS has attributed this bullion issue to production at the West Point Mint. The coin contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and displays the classic Walking Liberty design on the obverse, complemented by John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle reverse. Its brilliant silver-white appearance, sharply rendered devices and top certified grade make it an attractive addition to an American Silver Eagle collection. Coin Details Country: United States Date: 2013 Series: American Silver Eagle Denomination: One Dollar Mint Attribution: West Point Mint Mintmark: None visible; designated “(W)” by PCGS Composition: .999 Fine Silver Silver Content: One Troy Ounce Grade: PCGS MS70 PCGS Certification Number: 28192951 Label: Struck at the West Point Mint Obverse Designer: Adolph A. Weinman Reverse Designer: John M. Mercanti Appearance and Condition This example exhibits brilliant silver surfaces, strong mint luster, a sharp strike and well-defined design elements. It remains sealed in its PCGS protective holder with the blue West Point attribution label. The holder and label should be considered part of the lot, and bidders should review all photographs when evaluating overall presentation. Historical Background Introduced in 1986, the American Silver Eagle became the official silver bullion coin of the United States. Its obverse revives Adolph A. Weinman’s celebrated Walking Liberty design, originally created for the half dollar issued from 1916 through 1947. The reverse used in 2013 was designed by former United States Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti and features a heraldic eagle behind a shield. The parenthetical “(W)” in the certification does not indicate a mintmark physically appearing on the coin. Bullion Silver Eagles of this type were issued without mintmarks. Instead, the designation records PCGS’s attribution that this particular coin was struck at the West Point Mint. That distinction separates it from proof and burnished collector issues that may carry an actual “W” mintmark. This lot offers an appealing combination of one-ounce silver bullion content, an important modern United States coin design, West Point production attribution and the desirable PCGS MS70 grade.
