WWII US Army Air Forces Case XX Folding Machete / Survival Bush Knife That massive piece of steel is a rare piece of World War II military history: a WWII US Army Air Forces Case XX Folding Survival Machete (often designated as the V-44 or M-1 survival machete). Issued primarily in emergency bail-out bail kits and survival vests for aircrews operating over jungle terrain in the Pacific and China-Burma-India (CBI) theaters, this heavy-duty knife was designed to combine the chopping power of a machete with the packability of a folding knife. Manufactured by Case XX (W.R. Case & Sons), this knife features a thick carbon steel blade stamped with the classic block-letter “CASE XX” marking along the spine. It incorporates a heavy wood scale handle secured with large pins, a steel cross-guard notch, and comes with its original metal blade guard sheath that protects the sharp edge when stored or folded.
