Vintage Sears Ranger Side-by-Side Double Barrel Shotgun (Stevens/Savage Era) Up for auction is a classic vintage Ranger Side-by-Side Double Barrel Shotgun, a traditional American sporting firearm manufactured for Sears, Roebuck & Co. during the early-to-mid 20th century. "Ranger" was a prominent store brand utilized by Sears, with these rugged double guns primarily produced by major American arms manufacturers such as J. Stevens Arms Company and Savage Arms. This example features a boxlock action stamped with the cursive “Ranger” script on the left side of the frame, double triggers, a top-tang opening lever, and a checkered walnut buttstock. Most notably, the forend wood appears to be a handmade or field-crafted replacement fitted to the original internal iron latch assembly, giving this working-man's shotgun distinct character and history. The forend wood is a handmade/custom replacement that exhibits hand-carved tool marks, coarse inletting around the latch hardware, and slight fitment gaps along the barrel lug seam. Mechanical operation, lockup, and chamber dimensions have not been verified.
